PUPILS at a city school have been given a musical masterclass.
HM Band of The Welsh Guards visited youngsters at the Thomas Deacon Academy yesterday to help them improve their music skills.

While at the school in Queen's Gardens, Peterborough, the 30 guards marched around the atrium in front of hundreds of pupils, playing a number of well-known instrumentals.

Yesterday evening then saw the band team up with young people from the school to perform at the Key Theatre, much to the delight of a packed house.

Director of innovation at the school Steve Warburton said: "The Welsh Guards were with us all day doing masterclasses for our musicians, then performing a concert with our band at the Key Theatre.

"They conducted a terrific march, which all the academy were able to watch and enjoy.

"We're really thankful to them for helping our musicians raise their game and get a good idea of the standards of excellence they can aim for."
