FREAK weather conditions have caused chaos in the region this weekend, as motorists and residents have been caught out by snow and strong winds.
With snow falling overnight between Good Friday and Saturday, many city residents woke up to a fine covering of snow over the weekend.

People setting off early – either for work or as part of the Easter get-away – were greeted by a mini-blizzard on Saturday morning, as strong winds of up to 25mph also hit Peterborough.

The tricky conditions caused major problems for motorists early in the morning on Saturday.

One man was taken to hospital suffering from serious injuries in Lincolnshire after losing control of his white Peugeot 106.

He was driving along the B1356 Surfleet Road, near Surfleet, when he crashed at 8.45am on Saturday morning. No other cars are believed to be involved.

In Peterborough, a Renault Clio spun in the slippery conditions at about 8.30am on Saturday morning near the slip road at Thorpe Wood on the A47 Soke Parkway.

Emergency services were called and the driver was taken to Peterborough District Hospital.

And after heavy snow and rain fall over the weekend, the Environment Agency issued a flood warning at the North Bank Road at the side of the River Nene to the east of Peterborough and the west of the Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice.

Throughout the weekend the high winds also caused chaos, with emergency services inundated with calls about trees being blown down, and other damage caused.

David Lewis spotted one tree which had been felled by the winds near his home in Ravensthorpe on Friday.

The tree fell on to Spine Path at Deaconscroft, Ravensthorpe blocking residents' access.

But despite the freak weekend weather, it is now expected that the rest of the week will brighten up, with only the risk of light showers towards the middle of the week.

nPolice are appealing for any witnesses to the crash on the B1356. Anyone who saw the incident should call Lincolnshire police on 01522 532222 and quote incident number 108.
