PEOPLE can be dazzled by a stunning display of rare black opals this week in Peterborough.
John Wheeler and his wife, Leisha, from the Australia-based Blue Star Mining Company are staging an exhibition at Charles Bright Jewellers, in Exchange Street, Peterborough.

The largest opal on display is called the Tree of Life and can be snapped up for a cool £180,000.

As well as black opals from Lightning Ridge, there are also white and boulder varieties for sale and to view.

Mrs Wheeler has worked some of them into jewellery designs that people can buy as gifts.

He said: "We had a tremendous first day on Tuesday. There was a lot of interest.

"People came from as far away as Bedford and Cambridge.

"We are not just marketing the product, we also talk to people about the mining operation.

"Black opals are extremely rare."

The exhibition runs for a week.

dungeon, maybe read the picture caption first, it says... "John Wheeler shows off one of the rare opals". Not "John Wheeler shows off a rare black opal" now does it.
