A teenager has been left scarred for life after two laughing yobs set him on fire with a flaming petrol can.
As 15-year-old Craig MacLeod fought desperately to put out the flames that had taken hold of his left trouser leg, his attackers ran off
leaving him to his fate.

Today, his angry father said that Craig, whose left leg was left badly
burnt and blistered, could have died in the callous attack and the family hoped the two attackers are caught quickly.

The attack happened on wasteground near the Belle Vue underpass
at Stanground as Craig made his way to play five-a-side football
and passed two youths setting fire to rubbish and nearby trees.

Craig said that one of the youths had thrown a petrol can onto the fire
and then once it landed on the floor covered in flames, kicked it at his leg.

He said: "The boy who kicked the petrol can at me was just laughing.
"I was jumping in the air trying to get the flames off but they wouldn't
go away and I could feel it burning through my trousers.

"The boy carried on laughing while I tried to pat it out and rolled
on the floor. He and his friend then ran away.

"It was such a nasty thing to do, I am only 15 and I was only walking
past, I never did them any harm."

After putting out the flames on his leg, Craig went to the nearby Stanground fire station where firefighters called paramedics.

They treated his leg at the scene for burns and his parents
were called.

Craig's dad, Andy Macleod (47) said: "It was fortunate that
he was wearing his school clothes. Had he been wearing his nylon tracksuit bottoms it could have been a whole different story, maybe even a fatality.

"Craig was pretty shocked and will now be scarred for life, he didn't deserve that, it could have ruined his life."

The teenager's mum, Debbie Boyden (42) added: "The police have been round and taken photos and statements, we just hope these people are now caught.

"He is alright, but it is extremely painful so I am keeping him off school for now.

"It is disgusting that people out there can do such a thing."

Crew manager at Stanground fire station, Jeremy Corney, said: "Any kind of fire has the potential to get out of control, even a small fire.

"In this instance it looks as if a can of petrol caused it to flare up
and engulf the youngster's leg."

A police spokesman said officers are investigating the incident, which happened on Wednesday, as an assault causing actual bodily harm.

Absolutelty disgusting act of behaviour. What has got into the young people who could do such a thing? I hope they are caught and punished heavily for this. I wish Craig a speedy recovery and that he gets the justice this sick crime deserves.

It's high time that something is done about the scum that is let loose in this town - enough is enough. How about a statement from the police about what they plan to do about the serious anti social behavior problems before someone is killed.

I have only just noticed who this is, he is an alright lad i don't know him personally but i do believe he went to my primary school. It is a disgusting thing to do if i knew who it was i would drag them to the police station myself! They best be caught, i hope he is ok and is feeling well soon. People who play with fire you will eventually kill yourselves, kids and fire really do not mix! Many children/teenagers have lost there lives due to playing with fire so don't let it happen to YOU!

THERE ARE NO CONCEQUENSES FOR THERE ACTIONS ANY MORE,THE YOUTH OF TODAY KNOW THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH,DUE TO THE LAX PUNISHMENT BY THE COURTS AND THE DO GOODERS THAT BELEIVE THAT PRISON IS NOT A PLACE FOR CHILDREN,OR SO CALLED YOUNG ADULTS.THEY ARE LUCKY THEY DIDNT TAKE HIS LIFE OR SERIOUSLY INJURE HIM.THEY AND OTHER YOUTHS LIKY THEM THAT COMMIT VARIOUS AMOUNTS OF CRIMES SHOULD BE SENT TO OLD FASHONED BOOT CAMPS OR BORSTALS.THAT WOULD CERTAINLY WIPE THE SMUG SMILES OFF THERE FACES

This goes with the story I commented on yesterday regarding the possible closure of a chip shop due to abusive kids outside the shop. They start of being loud and abusive and having got away with that for a while they move on to assault, also left unpunished, then more serious assault such as this story, which if they are caught will lead to no more than a small compensation payout, then this time next year we'll see them in court on a murder charge. It all escalates because the police and other authorities do nothing at an earlier stage. Whilst I accept that there are decent young people in this country, the only way to stop anti social behaviour is to put a national curfew on anyone under the age of 18 being allowed out after 8.00 pm unless goint to or from a place of work or accompanied by a parent. Unfair on those that know how to behave in public I know, but at least the streets would be safer as the police would have an automatic reason for taking people home without having to look for evidence that they have committed a crime.

Someone knows who they are. Please do the right thing and report them, even anonymously. ID parades could then be conducted.

my brother is a copper..... not in boro tho'

they dont do ID parades anymore!!!
more than likely another box ticking execise from the new labour berks...

we must do what james whale has been saying on talksport before....

when gordon brown eventually decides to call an election

WE MUST VOTE...THATS FOR SURE...
BUT, VOTE FOR ANYONE OTHER THAN THE MP IN OFFICE..

THAT WAY THEY ALL LOSE THEIR POSITION & THEY HAVE TO TAKE NOTICE OF THE ELECTORATE... THE APATHY IS EXACTLY WHAT GIVES THOSE IN GOVERNMENT THE ABILITY TO DO NOTHING EXCEPT KEEP THEIR NOSES IN THE TROUGH..

REMEMBER WE STILL HAVE THE POWER, BUT WE MUST USE IT.

trottz - they do, just called VIPER now (video parades). Saves finding 8 suitable people off the street and paying them a tenner for the treat. Take the rest of your points though - use your vote.
