THE traffic misery continued today for rush hour commuters in and around Peterborough, as roadworks caused more long delays.
Motorists using the A1 were forced to travel at crawling pace in the contraflow system while work takes place at the Carpenter's Lodge roundabout, near Stamford.

The works are set to last into October, with weeks of problems expected for road users.

Lane restrictions and a 40mph speed limit on the Nene Parkway at Nene Thorpe Bridge, along with improvements to the Boongate roundabout, at the junction of the A1139 Frank Perkins Parkway and Fletton Parkway, in the city extended motorists' journeys.

The scheme involves the widening of the approach roads Boongate West, Boongate East and Carr Road, as well as the installation of new signs.

For the duration of the work, there will be lane closures, but city council officials say at least a single lane will be maintained at all times, with the majority of the work being carried out between 9.30am and 3.30pm, to reduce disruption as much as possible.

Why has no-one commented yet on the Town Bridge lane closures? The bridge work was completed, yes but now we have to contend with developers obstructing the carriageway for their own benefit.

You could ask for a comment from Wayne Fitzgerald about it Joff. However, I'm sure it'll just reiterate how it's not his or the council's fault.
More delays tomorrow - more buck passing and more silence from the council over the real questions city motorists want answering.

what developers re: town bridge? it's the 4th arm link to the new roads for POSH etc. that's council-paid, not developers

Don't forget the hundereds or extra lorries each year once all the warehouses are running at capacity on top of the planned 25000 extra residents. Now add to that the Magna Park plans the council have been involved in over the last few years and we might as well start walking now.

the lorries will be no bother. what will be, is the 25,000 extra *homes*, could be ~50,000 extra residents

What is it about Peterborough council that they insist on causing the maximum inconvienience to motorists. They start one project and cause chaos .Motorists then seek alternative routes which the council immiedateley subject to more roadworks. This council must cost local business millions of pounds.Yes roadworks have to be done but not all at once and how about doing them at nighr .We pay enough taxes to warrant some consideration.
