A BRIDGE over the Fletton Parkway linking Orton Malborne and Hampton was lifted into place on Saturday.
Funded by a £1.2 million contribution from O&H Hampton, the management company behind the construction of 7,000 homes in Hampton, the bridge is expected to improve cyclist and pedestrian access between the two townships.

The stretch of Fletton Parkway between junction 2 for Orton Malborne and junction 3 for Nene Parkway was closed as the 80-tonne bridge was lowered into position, resulting in tailbacks for hundreds of motorists on Fletton Parkway and surrounding roads.

The bridge scheme coincides with a project to widen Fletton Parkway from two to three lanes.

The additional lanes have been introduced to avoid congestion and improve road access to the southern half of Peterborough.

Kudos for the speed the bridge was installed in. I left the depot at Woodston last night to go to Taunton expecting to have to do a flip and find an alternative route but the carriageway was open.

Not sure we need people from the Ortons etc in Hampton anyway. It was better without the bridge.

Why were there tailbacks during the bridge installation? Surely the diversion signs are easy enough to follow - you wouldn't need to stop dead in the road to work it out.
