CITY of Peterborough Swimming Club (COPS) are gearing up for a massive weekend as they bid to burst onto the national stage.
The COPS A squad are involved in the Division One Final of the Speedo League (East Midlands), with the COPS B team taking their place in the Division Two event.

This is the premier club competition in the sport in England and Wales and success at the regional showpiece could lead to a berth in the National League Championships next May for Cops A and promotion to East Midlands Division One for the B string.

The COPS sides (some of whom are pictured above) go into the finals in their highest-ever positions - the A team are sitting second in the first division standings and the B squad lie fourth in their bracket.

COPS A will be doing battle in Coventry in a field which includes reigning champions Lincoln Vulcans, while the B side have home advantage when lining up against local rivals Wellingborough and Kettering at the Regional Pool.

COPS' league secretary Martin Coates said: "Both squads are going into their respective league finals having put in some really intensive training over recent weeks, culminating in a 5.30am training session for all members today.

"We will put up a huge fight but our swimmers will be up against the toughest competition they have faced this year."

The Regional Pool event starts at 6.15pm.
