THERE were goals aplenty in the Peterborough Sunday Morning League yesterday with a whopping 75 struck in just nine matches.
Contributing to that impressive tally in the top flight were New Shoes with Jonathan Bayes among the scorers as his side picked up their first win of the season with a 4-2 result away to Powerleague while Netherton maintained their blistering start w
ith an 8-0 win against Royal Mail.
Paul Clarke hit five of Netherton's goals with Jon Stead bagging himself a brace and Mark Kingston completing the scoring.
But despite his side's impressive start, Netherton manager Roland Dean is refusing to get carried away.
He said: "I am really pleased with the start we have made but it is still very early. We are playing some really nice stuff but need to just take things a game at a time.
"We have Westwood in a couple of weeks and they always give us a hard game so we need to keep our focus and just try to keep picking up points."
In Division One, the high-scoring theme continued with Parkway handing out a 9-0 spanking to a Premier Decorators side who turned up with just 10 men.
Hat-tricks for George Edwards and Ian Bradbury plus goals for Scott Merry, Steve Cazaly and Ashley Favell saw Craig Heath's side take full advantage.
In the same division, leaders Coates also picked up a decent 7-0 win against West Town.
Four goals for Adam Moore and further strikes for Matt Gale, Lee Colbert and Craig Cross saw the divisional newcomers continue their excellent start.
Manager Lee Colbert said: "It was a shame we lost to Parkway last week but we were short on that occasion and this week we were back to full strength again.
"As a new team it is great we have started so well. I only hope we can keep it going next week against Cherry Tree."
In Division Two, Nathan Steele hit four of his side's goals as Blue Boar beat Riley's 9-4 while in Division Three, Goldhay picked up their fourth straight win.
Limetree v Racing 252 in the Northants Cup was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, while Cherry Tree were awarded their first round tie at Whitehills, Northampton, on a walkover.
In the PFA Junior Cup Netherton Reserves beat Prince of Wales Feathers 13-1, Hampton beat Thomas Cook 3-2 and the battle of the Werrigtons went the way of the Village boys after a 3-1 win.
