LORD Burghley have been kicked out of the Hereward Cup final after fielding an ineligible player.
The Peterborough Sunday Morning League side have also been deducted six league points – handing the Premier Division title to Jubilee North End – after fielding Blackstones player Richard Jones in a number of games this season.

Centre-half Jones has a contract with the United Counties Premier League side and under PSMFL rules this means he is not allowed to play Sunday morning football.

Burghley also look likely to be stripped of their PFA Cup crown after beating Netherton in the final with Jones scoring the winner.

League chairman Fred Johnston said: "It was found that Lord Burghley did in fact play Richard Jones in the PFA Cup final while being a contracted player to a Saturday club. This contravenes our league rules namely that contracted players are not permitted to play in our competition.

"Mr Jones has also played two league games and the quarter-final of the Hereward Cup. While it is up to the PFA to hold their own investigation reference their cup final, the PSMFL regrettably have no alternative but to withdraw Lord Burghley from the Hereward Cup and the two league games will be null and void. The club will be fined and docked six points."

The Hereward Cup quarter-final losers Jubilee North End will now play Deeping Athletic – who lost to Burghley in the semis – in a replay of the semi-final on Friday.

The winners will play Netherton in the final at a date still to be announced.
