LORD BURGHLEY 1 NETHERTON 0 (PFA Sunday Morning Senior Cup final)
LORD BURGHLEY created their own piece of Peterborough Sunday Morning League history by winning the Senior Cup at Chestnut Avenue yesterday.

A first-half headed goal from man- of-the-match Richard Jones sealed a 1-0 win for the Premier Division leaders and ensured the Stamford side became the first team ever to win both junior and senior versions of the PFA Cup.

After taking an early lead via Jones' powerful header from a corner, Shaun Greetham's side dominated the first half and while Netherton came back strongly after the break Burghley held firm to lift the cup.

But with one pot already safely stowed away in the Burghley trophy cabinet, player/manager Greetham warned his players that there is still plenty of football to be played this season.

"After taking an early lead I thought we played really well in the first half and could even have gone in 2-0 up at the break" said Greetham.

"They came at us in the second half but we defended well and I do not think they really created that much - I know I didn't have to do that much in goal as the lads did well to restrict them to half-chances.

"Overall I think we deserved the win and we are obviously delighted to have become the first team to win both the senior and junior versions of the PFA Cup.

"But we still have a chance in the league and we play Netherton again in the Hereward Cup so we cannot fall into the trap of thinking the season is over because we have got our hands on a trophy.
