A GLITTERING charity ball at the Haycock Hotel in Wansford helped a business turn a £50 note into nearly £11,000.
The Big Wig Challenge tasked companies throughout the region to make as much profit as they could from £50, with the proceeds to be donated to Sue Ryder Care Thorpe Hall Hospice.

Peterborough security firm BusinessWatch used its cash to arrange a black tie ball and charity auction at the hotel and raised £10,889 for their efforts.

Prizes on offer in the auction included tickets to watch England's rugby union side take on South Africa, a hot-air balloon ride and a laptop computer.

The most popular item at the sell-out event was a day's hire of an Aston Martin, which fetched £950.

Organiser Claire Booth said: "We pretty much begged people to donate all the fantastic prizes for the auction, and the event was an incredible success.

"We are hopeful we can actually win the Big Wig challenge with the amount we have raised, but if we don't, it means someone has collected even more for Sue Ryder Care so it's a win-win situation."
