FOOD and music fans will be intrigued to learn of a new restaurant and music club that opened in Stamford in September.
In an exciting boost to the town's nightlife, Mama Liz's restaurant, which couples with the Voodoo Lounge venue, is starting to make a name for itself.
The team involved, Michael, Liz, Daniel and Patrick, has combined to bring together their collective years of experience in live music, bars and some of the region's most renowned restaurants, including Stamford's Panamania and Mi Familia.
The restaurant is set on the first floor amid the wooden beams and, overlooking Stamford's Broad Street, it's serving a variety of famous dishes of the creole and cajun cooking traditions – including gumbo, steak and jambalaya.
On ground level, it also boasts a bar and lounge, again in the New Orleans style. Its Bourbon Street authenticity is already achieving a popular place for a night out.
It serves real ales, continental lagers and cocktails, made to the original New Orleans recipes. There is already live music in the lounge, with acoustic artists playing most weekends.
But its the Victorian wine bottling cellar which is set to cause the biggest stir when it opens.
Set among the beautiful old brick arches, it's being transformed into a live music venue, and is going to be a fine addition to the region as a whole.
Mama Liz said: "I have been involved with bars, food and live music for years, but this is truly exciting and special. We look forward to some memorable nights here, and feel there are great times ahead.
"It's all very exciting, and we are delighted with how it's going. We would like to thank everyone who has been already and helped to create this buzz, and look forward to seeing more new faces each week."
