BEN Wright is determined to put pressure on star strikers Craig Mackail-Smith and Aaron Mclean for their starting place in Posh's Championship side.The confident 20 year-old was signed by Posh from non-league side Hampton & Richmond during the January transfer window. He made just a fleeting four-minute appearance as a substitute in the home defeat by Southend last season before moving to Blue Square Premier League club Kettering on loan.
But he has survived the cull of the Posh reserve strikers. Rene Howe, Scott Rendell and Kewsi Appiah were all placed on the transfer list at the end of last season, but Wright has been handed a first-team squad number.
Wright said: "My aim is to break into the first team before the end of the season and to be honest that should be the aim of everyone.
"Obviously that is not going to be easy here as the forwards have been brilliant in League Two and in League One. It's hard to see them not doing well in the Championship either because they are so good.
"But I have to believe that I can play a part or there is no point in me being here. I will be pushing myself really hard in pre-season matches and training to get myself noticed.
"I'm sure I will get my chance in the pre-season matches and then it's down to me to impress.
"I enjoyed it at Kettering last season. I scored three goals and played well, although the season did peter out for me a bit towards the end.
"The manager hasn't spoken to me about going on loan again so I'll concentrate on doing as well as I can here.
"I haven't had a pre-season with a full-time club before and the first day was very intense, but it was enjoyable also.
"It's encouraging that I am involved with the first-team squad."
Wright is heading for Marbella with the rest of the senior squad on Monday morning.
Posh are believed to be in the market for another striker, but Posh boss Darren Ferguson insists no deals are imminent.
Posh tried to sign West Ham youngster Freddie Sears on a season-long loan, but he joined Championship rivals Crystal Palace instead.
Winger Alfie Potter completed his season-long loan move to Blue Square Premier Division side Oxford United yesterday.
The youngster will join Oxford permanently if he impresses.
