Have your say

Well done referee Michael Oliver for having the balls to caution Manchester United’s divers.

But as usual social media delivered an instant, over-the-top response to his overall display.

The football world has so many Manchester United haters, anyone who punishes their players is guaranteed instant hero status, but Oliver was far from perfect. If Angel Di Maria (above) did dive to gain an advantage for his team then so did Danny Welbeck in the penalty area in the first half. Welbeck wasn’t cautioned.

And if Oliver was happy to caution Di Maria for adopting an aggressive attitude towards him why didn’t he apply the same sanction to Joe Hart for earlier in the season? Inferior English refs have taken charge of World Cup Finals mind.
