Nikki Hassock's 25-yard free-kick and an Aimee Sims strike were all Whittlesey had to show for their first half efforts, but business picked up after the break.

Sims fired her second to cut Whittlesey's arrears to one goal before left-back Natalie Gould levelled the scores with a classy individual goal after going on a marauding run forward from her own territory.

Spalding then hit the front again but Whittlesey refused to be denied a share of the spoils and Sims made sure they got it when completing her treble.

But this was no cakewalk for Diamonds as Barton put some strong resistance and forced keeper Scarlett Field into some great saves.
