Whittlesey lads prove they're the Real deal

CHERRY TREE 0 REAL WHITTLESEY 1(Tony Palazzo Cup final)

TROPHIES could well be like buses for Real Whittlesey.

Russell Fitzjohn's side have waited five years to get their hands on their first piece of Sunday Afternoon silverware – now they could end up completing a terrific treble.

The Whittlesey boys proved they are the 'Real deal' by seeing off Cherry Tree in this Chestnut Avenue showpiece thanks to an Andy Shaw strike.

Shaw provided the finishing touch from close range on the hour after Mickey Burch had headed on a Chris Brigham corner.

And they could well increase their trophy haul between now and the end of the season.

Real also have the Division One title in their sights as well as a Citizen Cup semi-final against AK Eleven on the horizon.

Fitzjohn said: "I must admit it wasn't the most exciting of finals, but our aim for the season was to win something and we are delighted to have achieved it.

"The team was started five years ago by Jamie Johnson and was basically just mates having a game on a Sunday afternoon.

"We have brought a few players in since then, got ourselves up into Division One and have now picked up a trophy.

"We need to win our five remaining league games to take the title by a point and we have another semi to look forward to as well."
