Wednesday, 8.40am: New Peterborough United boss Jim Gannon was formally unveiled at a press conference at London Road yesterday (2 February) and warned the club's supporters not to expect miracles.Gannon was quick to dampen any expectation that his arrival would prompt a dramatic turnaround in fortunes for Posh.
Posh are rooted to the bottom of the Championship table and 11 points from safety ahead of Gannon's first match in charge at home to QPR on Saturday.
Gannon said: "It is a fantastic challenge and I am an optimist, but I'm also a realist.
"I am not about to fill the supporters with a false sense of optimism, but hopefully I can make a difference by bringing back some respect, pride and credibility to the club.
"It is about getting more out of the players, getting them playing football again and enjoying the final months of the season.
"Let's be honest it would take an incredible run of results not just from us but from other teams, for us to get out of trouble.
"We would need to win several games in a row which would mean winning at places like Cardiff and Middlesbrough which will obviously be difficult.
"You never know what might happen if you do get on a winning run, but my only ambition at the moment is to win on Saturday and then to take it from there.
"I want to prove I can manage in the Championship and I am sure the players want to prove they can play there.
"I'd love to sit down with Darren Ferguson and ask him what he was expecting from the Championship. There is a massive gap between League One and this division as there is between the Championship and the Premier League.
"I have watched a few games at Championship level including Blackpool against Doncaster. I went to watch that match because both teams have shown you can be competitive in this league with smaller budgets."
Gannon's contract
Gannon has agreed to manage Posh initially until the end of the current season, but it's expected a longer contract will be discussed as soon as chairman Darragh MacAnthony is back in the UK.
Management team
Gannon will keep previous boss Mark Cooper's management team of Nicky Eaden, Ben McKensie, Barry Richardson and Keith Oakes. Goalkeeping coach Richardson signed a two-and-a-half-year contract yesterday.
