Triathlon - PACTRAC racers dominate their Peterborough Duathlon

The Peterborough Triathlon Club (PACTRAC) staged their first open event since 1987 - the Peterborough Duathlon at Castor - on Sunday (April 26) and members from the host club dominated proceedings.

Competing over a 4-mile run, 18-mile bike and 2.5-mile run course around Castor Helpston, Bainton and Ufford, the event attracted an entry of 63 competitors.

And the first five home - Nicolas Kernick, Nathan Tweedie, Mark Weathersby, Wayne Stainsby and Richard Moys - were all PACTRAC members.

PACTRAC star Paul Vernon meanwhile won the Anglian Water Duathlon at Grafham Water - ane event which attracted some of the best duathletes from around the country.

Vernon completed the three-mile run, 12.5-mile bike ride and 1.5-mile run 65:02 to win by 16 seconds.

Clubmate Martyn Witton was 153rd in 87:24.

Seasoned PACTRAC campaigned Sean Beard competed in the 2015 European Duathlon Championships at Alcobendas, just north of Madrid in central Spain, and finishd 10th in his agroup.

Over a course comprising a run of 6.25 miles, bike-ride of 25 miles and another run of three miles, he clocked 2:12:46.

Beard said: “What a race that was! Driving rain and very windy. In the end I was happy just to finish as there were quite a few crashes on the bike, and a few dropped out. It was so cold out there.”

Dave Wagstaff competed in the Robinson Pool Triathlon at Bedford and was 22nd in 74:59. The distances were: swim 400 metres, bike 15 miles, run 3 miles.
