Peterborough rowers claimed three wins and a second place at Sunday’s Head of the Trent and Masters of Trentside race in Nottingham.

The event offers a 3,800m course for novices and younger rowers and a 5,700m course for more experienced crews.

Fifty-one clubs formed over 200 crews for the 50 events. The visiting clubs were rewarded with generally good racing conditions although they faced a headwind for parts of the course.

Peterborough City’s Women’s Novice coxed four of Beth Murphy, Emma Richardson, Laura Desert and Ciara O’Sullivan picked up their second win in their second race as a crew by beating the local Nottingham crew and two university teams.

Although Nottingham pushed the Peterborough crew hard, the local ladies managed to win by just under three seconds.

The Masters B quad of Ruairi Moore, Stuart Holmes, Steve Ackerman and Pete Orme came second in their event, but they were beaten by a Peterborough and Star Club composite crew containing Peterborough rowers Ian Palmer and Steve Cranfield.

In the Women’s Masters D eights, a composite crew containing Peterborough’s Hayley Marsters and Bridge Lloyd held off a crew from York to win their event by four seconds.
