Tommy Rowe heading for top flight football

SUMMER signing Tommy Rowe has moved to London Road to play Premier League football.

SUMMER signing Tommy Rowe has moved to London Road to play Premier League football. The versatile 20 year-old was the first of three Posh permanent signings completed during the close-season when moving from cash-strapped Stockport County for an undisclosed fee rumoured to be in the region of 300,000.

Rowe, who can operate as a winger or a full-back, is relishing the prospect of playing Championship football for the first time next season, but he believes both his and Posh's rapid rises in the game can continue all the way to the top.

Rowe said: "I'm expecting it to be the most exciting season of my career and I feel I am ready to establish myself at the higher level.

"The club have won promotion two seasons running and moving here means I have done the same myself.

"I definitely feel I can reach the Premier League here. My first aim at Peterborough is to play regular football and that is something I am capable of doing in the Championship.

"I'm ready to go for pre-season and the hard work starts now. It has been great down here so far. Myself and my girlfriend have moved down and the lads have made me feel really welcome."

Rowe has lined up against Posh three times in the past two seasons.

He was part of the County team that followed Darren Ferguson's men out of League Two in the 2007-08 campaign, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory at London Road late in that season.

Rowe then also figured against Posh twice last season. Being involved in those clashes has given him plenty of insight into his new clubmates – well, one in particular.

Rowe added: "I've always just concentrated on my direct opponent and that was Russell Martin in the games last season. I also played up against him when he was with Wycombe the season before last so I am used to facing him.

"But it is obvious that there are a lot of good players here and everyone knows what people like George Boyd, Aaron Mclean and Craig Mackail-Smith can do."

Rowe lined up alongside fellow new recruits Toumani Diagouraga and Lee Frecklington at the start of pre-season training this morning.

The players and management are then flying out to Marbella for a five-day training camp on Monday where they will meet League Two side Rochdale in a private practice match.

Posh start their pre-season programme at St Albans on July 14. They added a friendly at Rushden & Diamonds on Wednesday July 29 to their summer schedule yesterday.

The Championship season kicks-off for Posh with an away match at Derby County on Saturday, August 8.
