10 YEARS AGOSPEEDWAY: Jan Andersen collected his first full maximum on British soil as Panthers smashed Newport 68-22 in the Premier League at Alwalton to go 10 matches unbeaten.
POSH: Manager Barry Fry got tough with his players by declaring that the club would be adopting a continental approach with training in the afternoon as well as morning sessions.
CRICKET: James Goode enjoyed a superb debut with 5-37 as Ufford Park saw off Uppingham by six wickets in a crucial Rutland Division One basement battle.
SWIMMING: City of Peterborough swimmer Jemma Rees topped the bill for her club at the Deeping Open sprint meeting with a third and sixth place in the 50 metre backstroke and freestyle events respectively.
POSH: Giuliano Grazioli threatened to slap in a transfer request if he was not in the Posh first team at the start of the season after a 30 goal spree while on loan at Stevenage.
CRICKET: Local teenager Charlotte Edwards was selected for the England squad to face Australia in five one-day internationals and three test matches.
POSH: Luton striker Dwight Marshall was identified as Barry Fry’s number one target if the club were to fail in it’s bid to bring Andy Clarke in from Wimbledon.

DARTS: March-based Mark Waters became the youngest-ever captain of the Cambs team. He was 22.
FOOTBALL: Crosfield veteran Alf Tapscott hit the goals which beat Deeping Tigers 2-1 in the Hereward Sports six-a-side football tournament final.
CYCLING: Peterborough Cycling Club mum and son duo of Fiona and Jeremy Harrison both recorded new club records at the Oundle Velo 10 mile TT.
CRICKET: Peterborough Town made it three Jaidka Cup Final wins in a row with a five-wicket win over Nenedale. Gary Rice was named man-of-the-match after taking eight wickets and scoring 30 runs.
TRIATHLON: PACTRAC athletes Harold Frobisher and Richard Wittering were the highest placed local athletes at the Ripon short course triathalon.
CRICKET: David Smith (5-38), Clive Wright (3-20) and Fred Merrill (31) were the stars as Barnack snatched a dramatic one-run win against reigning Rutland Division One champions Uppingham despite being bowled out for just 81 themselves.
MARTIAL ARTS: City martial arts expert Sajid Ali fought his way to the European Tang Soo Do title at St Ives and won trip to America for his efforts.

SPEEDWAY: Panthers conceded 12 heat maximums as they crashed to a 74-22 defeat at the hands of Exeter in the National League. Ashley Pullen failed to turn up and Ian Barney score the only heat success for Panthers.
CRICKET: The Peterborough League XI reached the Smith Barry Cup Final with a hard fought one-wicket win over Ramsey. Alec Chamberlain made 82 for Ramsey with Tim Clements (69) top scoring for the League XI.
CRICKET: Baker Perkins won the Jaidka Cup Final, seeing off Peterborough Town seconds by 22 runs. Ron Weston (BP) was the star man.
GOLF: Posh goalkeeper David Seaman shot a gross 82 off an 11 handicap to finish third in the Pearl Assurance competition at Thorpe Wood. Graham MacDonald (net 70) and Alan Hull (net 70) finished above Seaman.
ATHLETICS: Tina Reeson of Ken Stimpson School won silver in the high jump for the second year running at the National Schools Championships.
CRICKET: Paul Ramm of Barnack claimed his 1000th run of the season during a knock off 55 against Empingham.
TENNIS: Nicola Hurn won three titles at the annual Westwood House tournament. Nicola won the senior and third year singles titles before teaming up with Karen Dixon to win the senior doubles.
30 YEARS AGO
ATHLETICS: Tony Jarman won the 800m and 1500m, Elaine Tinkler won the intermediate girls shot and Sue Flack won the intermediate javelin as Cambridgeshire finished fifth in the Six Counties meeting at Spalding.
BOWLS: City bowler Mary Weston reached the semi finals of both the Northants Federation over 60s event and the four wood singles competitions.
ATHLETICS: A team consisting of Ruth Kisby, Helen Smith, Clare Barsby, Alison Blackett, Angela Demaio and Karen Glover from Oakdale School in Stanground took TheEvening Telegraph Junior Sport Team Event.
CYCLING: City Cycling Club members John Savill and Dave Jones both recorded personal best times when riding at the Icknield RC 50 Mile Time Trial.
SPEEDWAY: Panthers star Dave Gooderham collected the grand sum of 35 from the Evening Telegraph after his 56 point haul from home and away meetings in the month of June.
CRICKET: Old Deaconians retained the Huggard Trophy thanks in large part to Paul Bowes who hit 39.
Alan Swann led the reply for Deacons School with a top score of 29 after man-of-the-match Andy Vernum had topped the bowling figures for the losing side with 5-18.
