Thorney Colts link up with the village's adult team

THERE will be something different about next season's Thorney Colts.

THERE will be something different about next season's Thorney Colts. As part of a new programme of collaboration with Thorney FC men's club, the Colts are changing their kits to orange and black. The Under 8s premiered the new kit, sponsored by Thorney Lakes Bar & Restaurant, at the Huntingdon FA Festival of Football this past weekend.

Club secretary Michael Shuster said: "Thorney has always been regarded as a nice place for children and adults to play football

"We play in the park of a small, pleasant village just a few minutes up the road from Peterborough and our Colts have achieved the FA's Charter Standard accreditation.

"We thought that it was natural to formalise the relationship between youth and adult through the formation of Thorney Football."

"At the moment we will be entering teams in the Under 8s, 10s, 14s and 16s age groups of the Peterborough & District Junior Alliance and the Youth League. We recognise that it will not be long before the oldest players are ready to play men's football, maybe as a Reserves 'A' team, and want to offer a natural channel to continue playing in Thorney."

While the Colts and mens' clubs will remain operationally independent, a village football development plan is being drafted under the banner of Thorney Football.

The first priority of the group will be to improve the facilities at Thorney Park including new changing rooms, hospitality area and lighting.

Thorney Colts welcome six and seven year-olds for their Development Team and also players for next season's under 8s and under 10s.
