Swanny’s Fanmail: The night Barry Sheene was cleaned up by an ice dancer

Peterborough Telegraph's chief sports writer Alan Swann's World of Sport column - peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport

Peterborough Telegraph's chief sports writer Alan Swann's World of Sport column - peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport

Your World of Sport feedback: The BBC Sports Personality of the Year ranks alongside the Eurovision Song Contest in my book.

That is mainly down to the Ryan Giggs travesty, but I was also narked when some ice dancer beat Barry Sheene.

Throat-Warbler Mangrove

Swanny, challenging an overweight cricketer over 10 miles on a bike is a bit like Mike Tyson challenging the Cowardly Lion to a fight.

For that reason it will never happen.

Dave Lister

You fail to understand that most footballers cannot turn the heating up, or pay their mortgage, let alone negotiate with a club.

Agents are there because in most cases they are needed.

As for Sky Sports’ coverage (of transfer deadline day), I agree it was poor, but you could always watch something else.

And Michael Owen is still a quality footballer.

Comparing Ian Rush at 40 to Owen at 32 is like saying Peterborough has a cultural feel to it - utter garbage.

Try writing something original.

Utterdrivel

Would this be the same ‘quality footballer’ (Owen) who managed 17 goals (of which a whopping five came in the league) in three seasons at one of the best clubs in the country?

Face it, Owen was a brilliant player when he still had pace but that has long gone.

Watching him desperately try to hawk himself around was embarrassing.

SquiresM

Bradley Wiggins rules. He will win SPOTY by a mile.
