YAXLEY Under 9s more than made up for missing out on Junior Alliance glory by romping to the Under 9 crown at the Sawtry six-a-side tournament.James Royle's side were powerless to prevent Eye taking the White Zone title last season but they hit paydirt on the summer tournament trail.

The village side produced a superb display, winning all nine of their games and scoring 22 goals in the process while conceding only two at the other end.

Stars of the day were William Firman with nine goals while Liam Anderson, Emma Pollard and George Lindsey all scored four times.

Highly-rated goalkeeper Miles Shire was also in excellent form, saving penalties in both the semi final against Bourne Claret and final win against home club Sawtry.

Royle said: "The whole event went really well for us and everyone in the squad played superbly. All the games were very tight and competitive and I was impressed with our strength of character and composure as well as the fantastic support we received."
