JANUARY
JANUARYDARTS: Martin Adams' bid to defend his Lakeside World Championship crown was ended by eventual winner Mark Webster at the semi-final stage.
BOWLS: Spalding ace Graham Smith pulled off a stunning success over world number one David Gourlay in the second round of the World Indoor Singles Championship. Smith eventually bowed out in the last eight when losing to Ian Bond.
JUDO: Thomas Deacon Academy pupil William Lovell (15) was selected in the Great Britain World Class Talent Squad.
BOXING: City-trained heavyweight Matt Skelton fell agonisingly short in his bid to win the WBA title. The 40 year-old went down to a unanimous points defeat against holder Ruslan Chagaev in Dusseldorf, Germany.
ATHLETICS: Matt Blunden from Deeping won the big Folksworth 15 road race in 1.21.39.
RUGBY: Oundle School's Under 15 team booked their place in the quarter-finals of the big Daily Mail Cup after a 5-3 win over Bishops of Hereford Bluecoat School.
FEBRUARY
SQUASH: Sammy Chambers from Outwell became the youngest ever winner of the Cambs Closed Championships. The 16 year-old beat Wimbledon player Steffan Morgan in a five-set final thriller.
FOOTBALL: Former Jack Hunt schoolboy David Norris earned a big money 2 million move from Plymouth to fellow Championship club Ipswich.
RUGBY: Hot favourites Peterborough Lions completed a hat-trick of Hunts & Peterborough Cup wins by beating Deeping 18-12 in the final.
CRICKET: Local ace Charlotte Edwards marked her 100th one-day appearance for England in style. Edwards hit the winning runs in a seven-wicket success over Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
SPORT: Darts legend Martin Adams scooped The Evening Telegraph's Sports Personality of the Year award at the annual Sports Awards bash at the Holiday Inn, Peterborough West.
MARTIAL ARTS: Anna Ireland swept the board with a hat-trick of successes as Peterborough Tang Soo Do club dominated at the Midlands Regional Championships.
TENNIS: City duo Alan Jordan and former Davis Cup player Nick Fulward won the National Over 45 Indoor Doubles Championship. The Esporta pair had won the Over 35 crown in 2007.
FENCING: Ramsey teenager Jennie Tillott won the British Youth Championship crown. The 17 year-old beat her Millfield School, Somerset team-mate Alice Watson in the final.
POOL: Carly Smith saw her hopes of winning the European title crushed as she was whitewashed by defending champion Sharon Dixon in the third round in Malta, but she bounced back to help England Ladies to a ninth team crown in 10 years.
MARTIAL ARTS: Six year-old clubmates Callum Boyes and Callum Daliday recorded a one-two in their categeory at the British Championship. It was the Parkers Tang Soo Do club members' first major competition.
MARCH
BOXING: Newborough fighter Cello Renda suffered an English title defeat when being stopped by former Commonwealth Games medallist Paul Smith at the O2 Arena in London.
ICE HOCKEY: Stars from past and present gathered at the Peterborough Arena for a 'Legends Game' to mark the 25th anniversary of the sport in the city.
FOOTBALL: Glinton-born goalkeeper Luke Steele's FA Cup fairytale continued as he helped giantkillers Barnsley dump out Chelsea with a 1-0 quarter-final win, following their fourth round win at Liverpool.
ICE HOCKEY: Phantoms lifted their first trophy for four years after beating Milton Keynes 6-3 on aggregate in the final of the inaugural English Premier League KO Cup. They lost the first leg at home but responded with a 4-0 win in Buckinghamshire.
BOWLS: Tristan Morton celebrated a title double at the Northants Indoor Finals. He beat older brother Ean in the Under 25 singles before joining forces with Val and Jeff Newson to win the Mixed Rinks event.
FOOTBALL: Perkins clinched the Peterborough League Premier Division title in their final season. Alex Brown's men wrapped up the silverware after a 4-3 win over AFC Fletton which featured a hat-trick from Dino Salerno.

FOOTBALL: City lad Luke Steele's FA Cup dream came to an end when his Barnsley team was beaten by Cardiff in an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.
WINDSURFING: Former city resident Nick Dempsey set his sights on winning Olympic gold after being selected in the Great Britain team for Beijing.
ICE HOCKEY: Phantoms star Nathan Rempel turned down the chance to play for his adopted Great Britain to spend more time with his family.
SWIMMING: City of Peterborough Swimming Club (COPS) sped to an astonishing 317 medals at the Cambridgeshire County Championships.
SQUASH: The Cambs team of Declan Osborn, Robert Dadds, Sammy Chambers, Peter Dickinson and Daniel McGinn won the National Under 17 Inter-Counties title.
KARTING: Jason Parrott climbed onto the top perch when grabbing a first international success with victory in the WSK International Series at the Angerville circuit in France.
ICE HOCKEY: Local netminder Kelly Herring celebrated her first World Championship success after helping the Great Britain ladies team to Division Three triumph in Hungary.
KICK-BOXING: Three members of the PKA Kick-Boxing club grabbed seven gold medals them at the National Championships – Nina Swaby (3), James Gunns (2) and Bobby Swaby (2) did the winning.
ICE HOCKEY: Peterborough Islanders were beaten 7-3 by Whitley Bay in the English National League play-off final. The city side were Southern A League winners.
MAY
SNOOKER: Joe Perry was one frame away from the World Championship final at the Crucible. The Chatteris potter went down 17-15 to Ali Carter in a sizzling Sheffield showdown.
DARTS: Cambridgeshire successfully dodged relegation from the British Inter-Counties Premier Division by drawing with Essex on the final day of the season.
BOWLS: Young star Ean Morton saw his hopes of national Under 25 indoor glory disappear in agonising fashion as he was pipped 21-20 in the final at Newark.
SPEEDWAY: Panthers rider Sam Simota suffered a broken neck in a horror crash while racing in Poland.
FOOTBALL: Lord Burghley were kicked out of the PFA Senior Sunday Morning Cup days after lifting it. The Stamford were ousted after fielding ineligible player Richard Jones who scored the winning goal in their final victory over Netherton. Netherton then went on to beat Lord Westwood in a re-arranged final.
ROWING: Ace city rower Natalie Bream (17) joined forces with Amelda Gare of Molesy to win the women's pairs race at the Munich International Junior Regatta in Germany – and then followed up with a medal hat-trick at the Ghent Regatta in Belgium.
MARTIAL ARTS: Yaxley girl Kelly Ding claimed individual kata honours at the European Championships in Spain to add to her world and British crowns.
SPEEDWAY: Panthers star Kenneth Bjerre suffered a broken femur in a crash while racing in Denmark, but made a sensational return to action only 10 days later.
ICE HOCKEY: Phantoms appointed senior citizen Colin Patterson as their new coach. The 65 year-old Canadian replaced departed Phil David at the Peterborough Arena.
CAGE FIGHTING: Wisbech warrior AJ Wenn continued his rapid rise by capturing the British lightweight title with a first round stoppage of Sami Berik in Rochester.
RUGBY: Borough dubbed the arrival of new coach Jon Phillips as the biggest signing in their 65-year history.
BOXING: City prodigy Michael Maguire announced he was turning professional after a glorious amateur career.
DUATHLON: Barnack ace Matt Gunby (20) won a silver medal at the European Elite Championship in Greece.
FOOTBALL: Perkins completed a glorious final chapter in their long history by bowing out of local football with a PFA Senior Cup final success at London Road. Goals from Stu Addinall and Jonathan Hands sealed a 2-0 triumph as Alex Brown's men completed a league and cup double in their final ever match.
CYCLING: Wisbech ace Jody Cundy managed a gold medal double at the Paralympic World Cup, emerging victorious in the 1km individual team trial and the team sprint over the same distance.
JUNE
TRIATHLON: Simon Hoppe was handed the honour of captaining the Great Britain at the World Triathlon Championship in Canada.
GREYHOUNDS: Top local trainer David Pruhs landed the big prize at Fengate as 4-1 shot Cuil Magic won the Peterborough Cesarewitch.
ROWING: Peterborough City Rowing Club's Junior 15 sculls crew of Oliver Salonna (15), Sam Tuck (14), Tom Chung (14) and Ed Rippon (15), along with cox Katie Wallace won the National Schools Championship at Dorney Lake, Eton.
KICK-BOXING: RAF Wittering fireman Chris Deakin won the IKF British super-welterweight title. The 32 year-old was a points winner over hard-hitting Scott Rowley in Bournemouth.
GYMNASTICS: Eye star Louis Smith was named in the Great Britain squad for the Olympics.
BOWLS: Catherine Popple, Sarah Newson, Julie Masters and Val Newson provided Peterborough & District with a third British women's crown in the space of four years. The quartet roared to fours glory in Belfast after beating holders Wales in the final.
ATHLETICS: Martin Tinkler claimed a throws double in the Anglian Schools Championship at the Embankment, taking discus and shot honours and helping Cambs to senior boys glory.
ROWING: Ian Palmer really was a golden oldie at the National Championships in Nottingham. He took the spoils in the Veteran B single sculls event after earlier claiming silver in the Veteran A event.
ATHLETICS: March man Glen Watts became a national champion by winning the Under 23 3000m steeplechase at the England Athletics Under 23 Championships at Bedford.
CRICKET: Market Deeping retained the Jaidka Cup after a thrilling six-wicket win over Bourne in the final played at Barnack.
