Peterborough Panthers have launched their 2015 team-building by bringing back a familiar face tonight (Tuesday).
The city club have moved swiftly to secure the return of captain Ulrich Ostergaard just days after their survival was confirmed.
Ostergaard was Panthers’ star performer last season when increasing his average by close to one-and-a-half points and finishing third in the Premier League Riders’ Championship.
New Panthers chief Ged Rathbone reckons they had to fight off interest from a stack of rival clubs in the Danish ace.
He said: “We are absolutely delighted to be able to keep hold of Ulrich because he was a man in huge demand this winter.
“I know that more than half of the teams in the Premier League were keen to sign him, but there was only one place he wanted to race.
“He did take a bit of a gamble in some respects by holding on for our situation to become clear, but that just shows his desire to be at Peterborough.
“He showed last season that he is one of the leading riders at this level and we are looking for even more from him next year.”
Ostergaard will retain the captaincy for the 2015 season when Rathbone and long-serving co-promoter Trevor Swales will run the sport in Peterborough.
Rathbone has sponsored Ostergaard in recent years and also acted as his mechanic.
Panthers are expected to unveil further signings in the next few days.
