Swales excited by new regime and new-look team

TEAM manager Trevor Swales has never looked forward to a speedway season as much as he is doing right now.Swales has been in the business since 1971 but couldn't be more excited about the months ahead.

He said: "I didn't want last season to end after the way we finished on such a high - and I can honestly say that is the first time I have ever felt like that.

"Even at the end of such a great season in 2006 when we won the league I was glad when it was all over and we could relax.

"My enthusiasm for the sport came flooding back towards the end of last season once our new owner Rick Frost came in and turned the club around.

"Now there are a whole host of factors as to why I can't wait for 2009 to get going.

"It is Rick's first full season and our 40th in all. Those two things make it special and we are going into it with the team that we wanted to track.

"It's a team which is made up entirely of riders who have the scope for improvement and that is paramount when you are building to a 39.90 limit but need 46 points to win a meeting.

"This excitement runs down from the management through all the riders.

"We all know we have assembled a side capable of challenging for honours and we can't wait to get out there and prove it.

"We have also carried out more work at The Showground during the winter than I can remember being done in any other year.

"We've had a motorway blade and all sorts of other equipment making the track more level than it has ever been.

"And I really must take this opportunity to thank all the supporters who gave up their time in the cold and wet during the winter to help us get things looking ship-shape.

"I'm sure all their work will have been worthwhile."
