Panthers meeting at Lakeside is washed out

Peterborough Panthers were thwarted from continuing their fine start to the Elite League season by the weather on Friday night.

The city side’s clash at Lakeside Hammers was called off only half-an-hour before the scheduled 8pm start due to rain.

A statement issued by Lakeside confirmed: “Unfortunately due to a downpour at 4.30pm, which exacerbated problems caused on Thursday by heavy rain, and despite the best efforts of the track staff to re-dress the surface, a further light shower at 7.30pm made the surface unraceable.”

The postponement also prevented the club’s new Thundercats junior side from making their track debut in the Anglian Junior League.

Panthers are back in action next week with two dates against Eastbourne. They face the Eagles at the Showground on Thursday and before a return clash in Sussex next Saturday.
