New Panthers chief Ged Rathbone wants to welcome the Peterborough sporting community to the East of England Showground this season.

Rathbone, the North-East businessman who spearheaded the club’s successful survival bid during the winter, is prepared to offer free entry to home meetings for parties of up to 20 people from local sports clubs.

He said: “I’m led to believe there are a lot of people in and around Peterborough who have never been to a speedway meeting in their lives.

“It is something I desperately want to change and if we can create a few new Panthers fans in the process then so much the better.

“A speedway meeting will make a great social event for children and adults alike. I’m confident that anyone sampling the sport for the first time will be blown away.

“Hopefully there will be enough interest to allow us to welcome a local sports team to all of our home meetings during the year.”
