Panthers suffer another defeat by Coventry

PANTHERS duo Kenneth Bjerre and Niels Kristian Iversen suffered a semi-final exit in the Elite League Pairs Championship on Saturday night.

The Peterborough men went out at the hands of eventual winners Coventry at Foxhall Stadium, Ipswich.

Bjerre held the lead early in the semi showdown, but was passed by both Bees men, Chris Harris and Krzysztof Kasprzak on the second lap. Coventry went on to claim a second title in three years by beating Poole in the final.

Both Panthers riders had managed 10 points during the qualifying heats under the 4-3-2-0 scoring system.

They started with a 5-4 loss against the Bees, despite a Bjerre victory but then bagged a maximum against a weakened Wolverhampton duo of Nicolai Klindt and Joe Haines.

The Panthers men packed the minor places behind Grzegorz Zengota to ensure a 5-4 triumph over Swindon in heat 11 but their hopes were dealt a blow by a 5-4 loss against struggling Eastbourne after a Bjerre exclusion.
