The Peterborough Panthers class of 2015 took to the track for the first time yesterday (March 12).
The city club continued the countdown to the Premier League season when staging their traditional Press & Practice event at the East of England Showground.
The new campaign gets under way with a mouth-watering curtain-raiser against a Great Britain Select side on Sunday (March 15, 2pm start).
“It is brilliant to see a long winter of hard work from so many dedicated people come to fruition” said promoter Ged Rathbone, who spearheaded the successful winter fight for survival.
“And it was terrific to see so many supporters turn out on a working day to meet the riders and see them do some laps.”
All seven Panthers men were busy at Alwalton along with teenager Danny Phillips who was unveiled as the new Panthers promotion’s first full signing.
Middlesbrough-based Phillips is well-known to club supremo Rathbone and is seen as a future star for the club.
He will race in the National League for Stoke and the Midland Development League for Castleford (who are to race their home meetings at the Showground) this season while also spending plenty of time around the Panthers camp.
Rathbone added: “We are delighted to make Danny our first asset.
“He is a very promising young rider who we hope can be a big part of our future at Peterborough.
“He is improving all the time and we are going to continue to help him with his development.”
