Panthers rider facts

Did you know... Panthers ace Claus Vissing is not just a star on the shale - he's no mug in the boxing ring either.

Did you know...

Panthers ace Claus Vissing is not just a star on the shale - he's no mug in the boxing ring either.Vissing has even won a couple of fights during this winter.

Mario Jirout was also keen on another sport - at least the equipment.

Jirout was once famously found pinching golf balls from the Swingers driving range at the Showground!

Current captain Niels Kristian Iversen has the longest name in Panthers history - a whopping 20 characters.

Seven characters is the shortest as Paul Lee, Mick May, Bo Brhel, Tim Hunt and Paul Fry all prove.

A few Panthers riders with famous monikers

Hans Andersen - legendary fairytale author and Elite League title winner in 2006

Jack Walker - man who financed Blackburn's charge to the Premiership title in 1992 and rode for Panthers in the 1970s

Dave Allen - Nothing funny about his riding in the early 1980s when he was a Showground star

Steve Wicks - Top-class Chelsea footballer and Panthers man in 1991

And a near miss . . . Panthers legend and track curator Richard Greer should not be confused with the Hollywood actor of a similar name.

Nicknames

Panthers have had a 'Doctor' and a 'Sniper' in their ranks.

Past number one Peter Karlsson is the former and current charger Claus Vissing is the latter.

The name stuck after Vissing claimed he kept crashing last season because people were shooting at him!

Other memorable monickers are The Dark Shadow (Sam Tesar), The Mad Dog (Lukas Dryml) and The Thunder From Down Under (Jason Crump).

Poor old Panthers rider Henrik Moller (pictured right) was cruelly christened 'Audi' last year.

Not because he was a top-of-the-range motoring machine, but because he had an uncanny habit of putting four rings on his scorecard!

Songs you can expect to hear when Panthers win a race:

Kenneth Bjerre - TNT (by AC/DC)

Ales Dryml - Living Next Door to Alice (by Smokie)

Mads Korneliussen - Mad World (by Evergreen Terrace)

Karol Zabik - Spitting Games (by Snow Patrol)

Niels Kristian Iversen - Sex On Fire (by Kings of Leon)

Lee Complin - Smile (by The Supernaturals)

Andrew Tully - Burn Baby Burn (by Ash)

Simon Lambert - RAMBO (by The Murderdolls)

Rene Bach - Hard To Beat (by Hard-Fi)
