Shorter is the new City of Peterborough first team skipper

STRIKER Simon Shorter will skipper City of Peterborough's first XI next season.

STRIKER Simon Shorter will skipper City of Peterborough's first XI next season.Shorter, who missed most of last season because of injury, replaces stalwart defender Mark Feathererstone who stepped down following the club's relegation from the National League.

Shorter was elected at the club's annual meeting and will be assisted in the East Premier A Division campaign by manager Jon Short and vice-captain Simon Miles.

Chairman Peter Loader insisted the club as a whole had enjoyed a satisfactory campaign despite relegation for the first and second teams.

City thirds and fifths won promotions and there were significant cup runs by the club veteran, Under 18 and Under 15 sides. The Under 15s became the first team from the club to reach the semi-finals of a National Cup.

Sanjay Dhanani was the first winner of the 'Ted Belton Cup' for the club's adult player of the year. Belton, who died last year, was a long-time star player at Bretton Gate when the club were called Peterborough Town.
