Rugby: Wisbech's fine win secures promotion

WISBECH secured promotion to the London Division of the English Clubs Championship with a 38-14 win over Campion in the London North East Division Four play-off final.

WISBECH secured promotion to the London Division of the English Clubs Championship with a 38-14 win over Campion in the London North East Division Four play-off final.Wisbech were 14-9 down early in the second half after Tom Martell was sin-binned, but he celebrated his return to action with the try that launched the comeback.

Chris Noon, Tom Long and Matt Wait also crossed to send the large crowd home happy. Andy Claydon kicked four penalties and three conversions.

SPALDING were not so fortunate in their bid to reach Midlands Division Two. They were 12-3 ahead, but lost 14-12 in their Division Three play-off to Nuneaton.

Tries from Jamie Anthony and Harry Sharman plus an Anthony conversion gave Spalding an advantage they held until late in the game.

BOROUGH Under 16s lost 29-17 in their final game of the season to Leicester Lions.

A Sam Nickerson try was the Borough highlight.

HUNTS and Peterborough Under 14s beat East Northants 17-10 at Oundle.

Alex Masters scored two tries for Hunts with Bill Fear adding a third. Masters also kicked a conversion.

Brad Simmons and Josh Caplein were the pick of the Hunts and Peterborough forwards, with Joe Hough and Nathan Deacon showing flair and pace in the backs.
