Rugby: Lions aiming for an awesome foursome in county cup final

THE Peterborough Lions are determined to keep the Hunts & Peterborough County Cup in their Bretton-based den.

THE Peterborough Lions are determined to keep the Hunts & Peterborough County Cup in their Bretton-based den.The Lions have won the cup for the last three seasons and they are confident of making it four on the bounce with victory over Huntingdon at Hinchingbrooke School tomorrow (3pm).

Huntingdon played a division higher than the city side this season, but Lions' chairman Andy Moore is unconcerned about that and the fact that The Stags have home advantage.

Moore, who watched his side claim their annual win over city rivals Borough seconds in the semi-final last weekend, said: "We delivered a very accomplished display last week to knock Borough out of the cup for the fourth successive season.

"I did think we had put out an under-strength side, but we certainly deserved to win the game.

"If we play like that again we will have every chance tomorrow."

And Lions will be cheered on by plenty of supporters tomorrow when they face a team they will be meeting in league action next season.

Moore continued: "We will be in the same division as Huntingdon next season so we should be able to compete and we will have so many fans there I doubt whether playing away from home will be a problem.

"Our fans took over at 'Fragile Fengate' last week and we expect to have about 100 at the match tomorrow.

"The lads are very confident of retaining the cup and completing a big double after our league promotion."

Lions have named an unchanged squad for the big game.

Lions (from): Chris Platt, Mark Carter, Nico Steenkamp, Colin Thompson, Ian Underwood, Leon van Niekirk, Damien Moore, Jan Ferrara, Wimpie Jonker, Jacko Steenberg, Jacques Vorster, Fred Steyn, Marco Rossau, Aaron Beschizza, Trompie du Toit, Manny van Niekirk, Tony Hustler, Stuart Richmond.
