Rugby: Borough will play at new national level
Peterborough Rugby Club will be playing National League rugby next season (2009/10).
Peterborough Rugby Club will be playing National League rugby next season (2009/10).They may have just missed out on promotion from Midlands Division One to National League Three last term, but as part of some league re-structuring they'll be kicking off in September in a new 'national' division.
Midlands Division One will be renamed National Three Midlands for the 2009/10 season as part of league restructuring. See full league structure below
The change in title follows the introduction of a 12-club Championship to replace the old 16-team National One.
The old National Two and National Three North and South will be renamed National One and Two with the top four regional leagues - including Midlands One - becoming National Three competitions.
The new National Three Midlands will have a bonus points system for the first time, in line with the other National Leagues, and the division has been increased from 12 to 14 clubs.
Sheffield Tigers will play in National Three Midlands next season having been transferred from North One to balance the numbers. Sheffield Tigers will replace Chester who have been level transferred back into the new National Three North after a season in Midlands One.
Leagues at level six - the renamed Midlands One West and Midlands One East - have also been increased from 12 to 14 club divisions, but leagues at levels seven and eight (Midlands Two and Midlands Three in the new structure) remain at 12 clubs.
There will be smaller leagues at levels nine and 10, the bottom two tiers of the league structure, as a result of the need to promote more clubs higher up the league pyramid. As a consequence Midlands Four and Five East (South) will be combined and will operate on a conference system involving 14 clubs.
