ROWING: Peterborough City club teenagers Ed Rippon and James Fox won races at the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta yesterday.Rippon (16) was part of a composite City and Bewl Bridge crew that defeated another City rower Sam Tuck (15) and his Tideway crew by half a length in a time of 7.13 in the first round of the Fawley Challenge Cup, a quad event for under 19s, over a race distance of just over 2,000m.

Fox (17) is a member of a composite crew also including rowers from Sir William Borlese and King's Ely that beat a Dutch crew by one and a half lengths in a time of 6.40 in the opening round of the Prince William Challenge Cup, a quad event for seniors.

Rippon's crew race again today against a quad from Sydney, Australia. If they win that they could meet another City rower Tom Chung and his Leander and Hollingworth Lake team in the quarter-finals tomorrow. - Chung's crew had a first round bye, but also compete in the second round today.

Fox's crew would have started hot favourites to win the Fawley Cup if they had been permitted to enter. They will have their work cut out today against Prince of Wales favourites London RC.
