English Premier League, 3 January 2010: Peterborough Phantoms emerged bloodied but unbowed from this bruising East London encounter. As expected Doug Irwin's side were given a going over by Raiders at the Romford Ice Arena, but managed to stay on their feet to claim another priceless win.

Despite the second period loss of Callum Fowler with a suspected broken jaw, a brace from Joe Miller and goals from Tom Carlon, James Knight, Brent Gough and Warren Tait secured Phantoms second four-point weekend of the season.

And while he may have a growing injury-list, the new year couldn't have started much better for Irwin.

He said: "Romford gave us a really tough time and we knew they would as they always want to beat us with Hammill in charge there.

"They tried pretty much anything to beat us but we stuck at it and made sure we were not going to be out-battled.

"It was a pretty ugly win, but we wanted to begin 2010 with a maximum from this weekend and that is what we have done but it has been at cost.

"Callum pitched head first into the boards and received hospital treatment. We are not sure if his jaw is broken but I expect he will miss games.

"With James Spurr and Julian Smith already out of action that is the last thing we need but we will have the cope."

At the end of the first period the visitors led 2-1 thanks to goals from former Telford line-mates Carlon and Knight before extending their advantage five minutes into the middle frame thanks to Gough.

Matt Turner cut the arrears for Romford in a fractious period before Miller restored the two-goal cushion.

But when Raiders' player coach and former Phantom Hammill, netted at the death the revved up Londoners sensed a chance in the final twenty.

However goals from Tait and Miller to open the final act rendered Jon Sitko's late effort little more than consolation as Phantoms rightfully claimed the spoils of war.
