Rams are relying on Fletton to mess it up

RAMSEY chief Paul Taylor is looking for a favour between now and the end of the season.

RAMSEY chief Paul Taylor is looking for a favour between now and the end of the season. The Rams maintained their four-point lead at the top of the Peugeot Premier Division standings with a smooth 5-0 success over Parson Drove on Saturday.

Taylor has now challenged his men to win their two remaining games - against Moulton Harrox and Pinchbeck - while hoping title rivals AFC Fletton slip up during their final four matches.

Taylor said: "All we can do is win our final two games, apply the pressure to Fletton and see where it takes us.

"Then it will be a case of keeping our fingers crossed that someone does us the odd favour and Fletton slip up.

"I don't really expect that to happen, but we are not going to give up. In all fairness both ourselves and Fletton have hard games left."

Stuart Harper, Michael Cafferkey and Richard Hamill eased the league leaders into the driving seat against Drove before a brace from Steve Robson wrapped up the points. Robson's second goal was a milestone moment as it brought up the team's century in their debut top-flight season.

Ramsey's task was made easier by Drove having a player sent off for the third successive match.

Goalkeeper Adam Wright saw red for using foul and abusive language to the referee.

Drove boss Nick Markillie admitted: "If he hadn't been sent off, he would probably have had to come off because he took a whack in the ribs.

"We've got no complaints - we were beaten by the better side."

AFC Fletton beat third-placed Rutland Rangers 3-1 on Saturday.

PETERBOROUGH Sports boosted their hopes of dodging the relegation trapdoor - although boss Lee Brown was still far from happy.

The city lads shared a 0-0 draw at Leverington to close to within three points of Stamford Bels, but Brown was fuming after seeing a goal disallowed and having two strong penalty shouts turned down by referee Jonathan Amess.

Shaun Dunkling was the man to 'score' while Brown felt a handball and a foul on Neil Brown should have led to spot-kicks.

To compound Sports' misery, Leverington keeper Matthew Storey made several good saves.

Boss Brown said: "We are a point closer to safety, but we should have had the win.

"The lads deserved it and only some shocking decisions from the referee stopped us getting it.

"Three points would have been huge but we will keep plugging away."

This draw against the basement side came just seven days after Leverington had beaten title-chasing AFC Fletton.

"And we were lucky to get the point in all honesty" said Leverington boss Wayne Garner.

"We've got one game to go against Pinchbeck and we can't get it out of the way soon enough for my liking!"GARY Piper is proving to be a big hit at Pinchbeck.

The former Holbeach striker helped himself to a hat-trick as Peter Roberts' men overcame Uppingham 5-3.

Fellow frontman Andy Law and Robbie Relf also found the net in a success which keeps the Lincs lads' hopes of a top-six finish alive.

Boss Roberts admitted: "I have said all along that I believe we can finish in the top six.

"We still have six games to go and plenty of difficult ones at that, but it might just happen.

"Gary has done well since coming in. He wasn't getting much football at Holbeach and we're delighted to have him here.

"We've got a good bunch of lads together who are working hard and enjoying it."
