Preview: Posh player scored Stevenage's most famous goal

GEORGE Boyd is not the only ex-Borough boy to go on to bigger and better things.

GEORGE Boyd is not the only ex-Borough boy to go on to bigger and better things. In fact Boyd still has a fair way to go to emulate striker Barry Hayles who went from the Conference to the Premier League with Fulham.

The Sodje's - defenders Efe and Sam, and forward Akpo - also played for Stevenage.

THE most famous goal in Stevenage Borough history was scored by a Posh player. On-loan striker Giuliano Grazioli nodded in an equaliser against Newcastle United in a fourth round FA Cup tie in January 1998. His close-range effort earned the non-league minnows a money-spinning replay at St James' Park which they valiantly lost 2-1. He was much more of a success than another former Posh striker, Calum Willock, who only managed six goals in 38 games for Boro.

STEVENAGE were only formed in 1976 after the bankruptcy of Stevenage Athletic. They played in local leagues until 1980 when joining the United Counties League (home to such footballing giants as Yaxley and Deeping Rangers).

STEVENAGE'S finest moment was their 3-2 FA Trophy Final triumph over Kidderminster in front of a record 53,262 at Wembley in 2007. They repeated the feat last seaosn when beating York 2-0 in the showpiece.

STEVENAGE are managed by Graham Westley, who is in his second spell at the club. He is arguably best known for taking Farnborough to the fourth round of the FA Cup in 2003 when they were beaten 5-1 by Arsenal.
