Preview: Simpson hoping to silence Cardiff again
A TRIP to Cardiff to face a free-scoring promotion-chasing side might worry some players. For Posh midfielder Josh Simpson the thought makes him break out into a wide grin.
A TRIP to Cardiff to face a free-scoring promotion-chasing side might worry some players. For Posh midfielder Josh Simpson the thought makes him break out into a wide grin.Cardiff helped Simpson introduce himself to Posh fans in spectacular fashion at the end of last year. The 22 year-old had seen less than 20 minutes of Posh action when he entered the fray at London Road at half-time with his side 4-0 down.
Match coverage: Cardioff v Posh, kick-off 7.45pm.
The rest, as they say, is history. Simpson scored twice, once deep into injury time, as Posh staged the best comeback in the club's history to snatch an unlikely point.
Simpson said: "I signed a full-time contract soon afterwards so the match certainly didn't do me any harm.
"Obviously it was probably a once-in-a-lifetime occasion, but they are great memories which will stay with me for a long time.
"It was good for me as I was just making my way at the club and it was good for the team because it showed what we are capable of achieving.
"Cardiff are an excellent side with plenty of attacking options so it's unlikely that a similar game will take place tonight, but we will take plenty of confidence from keeping a clean sheet on Saturday into the match.
"After winning a game at last we need to put a run together now so we have to get something from tonight's game.
"We are going to be a lot more organised under this manager and the difference in the atmosphere at training yesterday because we'd won a game was noticeable.
"I've been here for three months and I'm already on my third manager so I hope this one stays a bit longer.
"A different manager will have different ideas on players so I was happy to be involved against QPR. I felt I did okay as well.
"Since turning full-time I feel sharper and quicker and my aim now is to establish myself in the first team as quickly as possible.
"There are many central midfielders at the club so it won't be easy."
Simpson was taken on loan from Blue Square Premier League side Histon by Darren Ferguson just before the double promotion-winning boss left London Road.
It was at Histon that Simpson's previous-best moment in football took place.
Simpson added: "Playing against Leeds for Histon in the FA Cup was a great experience. I played 90 minutes against Fabian Delph at a time when he was being linked with a multi-million pound move to Manchester United and we beat them 1-0."
