POSH aim to reward manager Darren Ferguson's success with the offer of a new, improved contract.Club chairman Darragh MacAnthony has confirmed that he will meet with his manager during the first-team squad's training trip to Marbella next week.

MacAnthony also revealed that Ferguson turned down the opportunity to speak to Championship promotion favourites West Brom when their boss Tony Mowbray left to join Celtic at the end of last season.

MacAnthony said: "My jet lands at 8am next Wednesday in Spain and I have meetings scheduled all day with directors of the club.

"Then I am meeting the manager to discuss his new contract as promised when we spoke at final game of the season. I find it a massive compliment that he turned down even speaking to West Brom as he was their number one choice.

"It's refreshing to have that kind of loyalty at our club and bodes well for next season."

Ferguson has won back-to-back promotions in his first managerial job. Posh were labouring in mid-table in League Two in January 2007 when MacAnthony shocked the football world by appointing a rookie boss.

Ferguson is midway through a four-year contract, but it's likely he will be offered a pay rise and an extension to his current deal next week.

Another relegated Championship side Reading also showed an interest in the Posh boss when Steve Coppell tendered his resignation at the Madejski Stadium.

Ferguson said: "A meeting has been arranged with the chairman for next week to discuss my contract, but from my point of view there is no rush to sort anything out.

"I have two years left on my current deal and I'm very happy at this club.

"We have enjoyed some great success, but we are now facing an even tougher challenge of being successful in the Championship.

"I'm excited about that. I'm not thinking about anything else."
