Posh end their interest in Grimsby defender Bennett

POSH have ended their interest in highly-rated young Grimsby defender Ryan Bennett. The club's improved bid for the 19 year-old was officially rejected by The Mariners yesterday. Posh director of football Barry Fry insists they will make no further offers for the player.
Posh's first bid for Bennett was described as 'derisory' by Grimsby chairman John Fenty leading Fry to increase the offer last week.
Fry said: "Grimsby contacted me yesterday to reject our improved, and very reasonable, offer so that's the end of it as far as we are concerned.
"They think they can get a couple of million for the boy so good luck to them. I'd be amazed if there's anyone out there prepared to match what we offered.
"Bennett is a great prospect, but we will now look elsewhere."
Grimsby manager Mike Newell helped to block the transfer. He once sold Curtis Davies to West Brom from Luton for 3 million and believes Bennett could eventually command a similar fee.
Posh are expecting to sign a central defender from a Premier League club on a season-long loan on July 1. He is a player with international experience.
The signing of midfielder Toumani Diagouraga from Hereford was postponed again yesterday. He was due to arrive at London Road this morning and is expected to sign after completing a medical.
But Posh have denied reports in a national newspaper today that Sheffield United are interested in striker Aaron Mclean.
