Posh bid for Bulls ace accepted

POSH have had a bid accepted for Hereford midfielder Toumani Diagouraga.

POSH have had a bid accepted for Hereford midfielder Toumani Diagouraga. The French-born 22 year-old was due to meet Posh director of football Barry Fry at London Road with his agent today. The fee involved is less than the 400,000 reported in a national newspaper yesterday.

Fry is confident Diagouraga will sign today. The player was once compared to former Arsenal star Patrick Vieira by Hereford boss Graham Turner.

Fry said: "Toumani is a holding midfielder who breaks up play, but he is also a good passer of the ball. We tried to sign him last summer but as Hereford were promoted with us he stayed with them.

"Darren Ferguson fancied having another go at him after Hereford's relegation last season and we have now had a bid accepted.

"I'm speaking to the player today and hopefully we will reach an agreement. It's another young, hungry player who will fit in superbly with the rest of the squad.

"Darren thinks he offers something different to the other midfielders at the club."

Diagouraga was born in Paris where he was spotted playing junior football by a Watford scout. He signed professional forms at Vicarage Road aged 17, but managed only a handful of first-team games for The Hornets.

Watford manager Adrian Boothroyd made him available for transfer and he spent time at Swindon and Rotherham before joining Hereford on a season-long loan in time for their 2007-08 promotion campaign in League Two.

Diagouraga made his move to Edgar Street permanent and was a virtual ever-present last season as Hereford were relegated from League One.

He would be the third permanent Posh signing of the summer behind winger Tommy Rowe and midfielder Lee Frecklington.

POSH'S Championship fixtures will be revealed on Wednesday. The Championship season kicks off on Saturday, August 8.

POSH will be able to name seven substitutes next season following a decision made at the Chairmen's Conference in Portugal.

Clubs can currently only name five but will only be able to use three when the new rule comes in next season.
