Posh switch striker search

Peterborough United have switched their focus in the search for a new striker.

Peterborough United have switched their focus in the search for a new striker.Chairman Darragh MacAnthony revealed earlier this week that the city club had been unsuccessful in their attempts to land both Livingston hot-shot Leigh Griffiths and raw Stockport talent Oli Johnson despite making sizable bids.

Now director of football Barry Fry has confirmed the club have already made a bid for another attacking target, but he is remaining tight-lipped on the player's identity.

Fry said this morning: "We have already gone elsewhere and have made a bid for another striker.

"He is a Football League player and it will be a permanent deal if it happens."

Media reports in Scotland suggested Griffiths would become a Dundee player today by completing a 100,000 switch - something which has dismayed Fry.

He added: "I don't mind admitting we bid 200,000 which is a lot of money for a teenager. Both him and his agent told me he was desperate to come down to England.

"Now we find that he is moving to another club in Scotland for half of that which makes a mockery of things. I've heard his club Livingston are so skint that the electricity has been switched off, yet they sell him for that money."

Another transfer-listed Posh player could be on his way to Luton.

Veteran central defender Chris Westwood is due to hold talks with the Hatters tomorrow and could be set to follow keeper Mark Tyler and striker Liam Hatch (who is on loan) to Kenilworth Road.

Fry continued: "Mick Harford is really keen to take Chris to Luton and has offered him a two-year contract. He sees him as the icing on the cake as he tries to get them back into the Football League."
