POSH ace Charlie Lee reckons new manager Jim Gannon has made a cracking first impression at the club.The former Stockport County and Motherwell chief has replaced Mark Cooper who was dramatically axed on Monday after only 13 games in charge.
Gannon, who has initially agreed a deal until the end of the season, has overseen two days of intense training since beginning work at London Road.
He will take charge of Posh for the first time when they host Queens Park Rangers at London Road on Saturday. The city club are 11 points from safety after a four-match losing streak.
Lee said: "Jim has been very good. He has held a couple of meetings with the players to lay down what he expects from us and we have done two really good - and really hard - days of training.
"It always takes a little while for a new manager to settle in and for everyone to get used to his preferred style of play. Jim has spoken about the tactics and the systems he likes to use and hopefully we can put them into practice.
"There were a few differences between the way Darren Ferguson and Mark Cooper did things. They have both been effective but haven't quite worked for us this season.
"Throughout my time at the club the team spirit has been great but that always takes a hit when you struggle or things happen. But we are still together as players and hopefully Jim coming in can be the catalyst we need.
"We have enjoyed two great years but all footballers say it is hard to forget the relegations you suffer during your career. None of us want to be in this position.
"We have to take things one game at a time. We can't afford to think about the future or worry about what might happen at the end of the season.
"All we are concentrating on is going out to get a result against QPR on Saturday. We know we are good enough to do that."
Gannon revealed he is determined to ensure the club have an 'enjoyable' end to the season during an impressive media address after being officially unveiled.
Victory over the London club would be a fine start towards that goal and Gannon admits that is currently his sole target as Posh boss.
He said: "QPR have stabilised a bit under Mick Harford, who is someone I know well. They added to their squad well before the transfer window closed.
"I saw them play at Blackpool and felt they were a very good footballing side. They are enduring a difficult phase but all I am concerned about is making sure we put ourselves in the best position to win the game.
"That is my only target at this stage."
Gannon is set to keep George Boyd as Posh skipper. Loan striker Izale McLeod has also trained with the club this week despite attempts to terminate his loan over the weekend after an incident towards the end of Cooper's brief reign.
