Poor run leaves Posh skipper Boyd so frustrated

CAPTAIN George Boyd admits he wants to scream out in frustration at Posh's desperate plight at the foot of The Championship.

CAPTAIN George Boyd admits he wants to scream out in frustration at Posh's desperate plight at the foot of The Championship.Like many people at London Road, Boyd has been shocked and disappointed at a terrible campaign which looks certain to end with an immediate return to League One.

Crystal Palace 2, Posh 0 - Posh flop at crisis club Palace

Boyd accepts his share of the blame, but insists there is still enough belief in the first-team squad to pull off a miracle escape from trouble.

Boyd said: "I'm the captain and I feel it's my responsibility to get more out of the players on the pitch.

"I do shout and encourage, but there are times when I just want to scream at people.

"Everyone is doing their best, but nothing is going for us and it's just so frustrating.

"We started this match okay and in the end we probably had as much possession as them, but we are getting punished for our mistakes.

"We lack a ruthless streak in both penalty areas and that's been the case for a while. My job is to create and score goals, but it's just not happening and one goal in four matches is a terrible return for a side with our ability.

"We won't give up though. We still believe we can get out of trouble."

It was a bitter-sweet return to Selhurst Park for Boyd who used to watch Palace when he was a schoolboy. He expects them to climb away from trouble despite a perilous financial situation.

Boyd added: "We knew going into administration would pull them together and so it proved. They worked hard and fought hard.

"Shaun Derry is an animal in the middle of the park and he didn't miss a header or a tackle.

"I'm sure they won't go down with that sort of attitude as long as they don't lose too many players.

"I had some great times as a fan so it was good to come back and play here."

Boyd was watched by several members of his family. Also among the crowd was singer Dane Bowers, less than 24 hours after finishing second in the last ever series of Celebrity Big Brother.

Bowers is a great friend of Posh left-back Tommy Williams and his model wife Nicola McLean.
