Phantoms won't lose out insists Kynaston
PHANTOMS director of hockey Jon Kynaston insists there will be no split loyalties after signing on with Hull Stingrays.
PHANTOMS director of hockey Jon Kynaston insists there will be no split loyalties after signing on with Hull Stingrays.Kynaston (39) has been appointed head of community and project development with the Elite League outfit after spending over 20 years involved in Peterborough ice hockey.
Last season Kynaston played a big part in recruiting the Phantoms side which clinched an unprecedented trophy treble. But his decision to take up Hull's offer has cast a doubt on his Bretton future.
Despite those concerns, however, Kynaston will be staying on at the Peterborough Arena as director of hockey and is confident of balancing his commitments.
He said: "Since the beginning of spring I have had a few offers from other Elite League clubs for a similar type of role but Hull is the one which felt right for me.
"This is the best of both worlds for me. I didn't want to leave Peterborough but I did fancy the challenge of building something with Hull in the Elite League.
"They are a smaller club in terms of finance when compared with some of the teams operating at that level and I am looking forward to helping them develop their organisation and taking it forward.
"It will take time to develop things in Hull but there are rewards for hard work and that is what I will be putting in.
"But I am still committed to Phantoms. They are my club and I want to make them as strong as they can be."
After his success in helping build Phantoms into the dominant force in the English Premier League last season, it is perhaps inevitable that other clubs would come calling for his services.
And it is clear by the reaction of club owner Phil Wing that there was a certain inevitability about Kynaston eventually taking one of the offers coming his way.
Wing said: "Jon has been a key part of the management team at Peterborough and has worked very hard to build programmes that have given us a reputation second to none in our sport.
"This progression has been repeatedly noticed in hockey circles up and down the UK and his skill has been sought by other teams.
"However, Phantoms' supporters can be assured that Jon's commitment to the club is as strong as it ever has been and this opportunity for him to work with an Elite League team should also bring benefits to our club."
