Phantoms' Patterson named as the coach of the year
ICE HOCKEY: Phantoms coach Colin Patterson has been named the Ice Hockey Journalists UK Coach of the Year.
ICE HOCKEY: Phantoms coach Colin Patterson has been named the Ice Hockey Journalists UK Coach of the Year.The Canadian has guided the Bretton club to the English Premier League title and the EPL Cup final in his first season in charge.
And following another storming season, import defender Dwayne Newman has also been named in the EPL All-Star first team while Stephen Wall, Craig Peacock and league top scorer Nathan Rempel were named in the second team.
Patterson said: "I am delighted with the award but it is more of a tribute to this group of players who have been incredible this season.
"They deserve the recognition that comes their way with an award like this and I accept it on their behalf as much as I do my own."
EPL All-Star first team: Goaltender - Barry Hollyhead (MK Lightning), Defencemen - Jan Krajicek ((Romford Raiders), Dwayne Newman (Peterborough Phantoms), Forwards - Steve Moria (Slough Jets), Joe Ciccarello (Slough Jets), Marek Hornak (Telford Tigers).
EPL All-Star second team: Goaltender - Stephen Wall (Peterborough Phantoms), Defencemen - Jan Melichar (Bracknell Bees), Paul Dixon (Guildford Flames), Forwards - Craig Peacock (Peterborough Phantoms), Nathan Rempel (Peterborough Phantoms), Peter Jasik (Bracknell Bees).
