LANGTOFT put themselves in pole position for title glory by overcoming Sawtry in a clash of the Division Two titans on Saturday.

LANGTOFT put themselves in pole position for title glory by overcoming Sawtry in a clash of the Division Two titans on Saturday.First-half strikes from John Armstrong and James Goode earned Ben Martin's men a 2-1 away triumph at Greenfields. Neil Hunter halved Sawtry's deficit after the break but Langtoft held on to go two points clear at the summit.

And Langtoft chairman Barry Woodthorpe hopes both sides clinch promotion after a cracking contest.

Woodthorpe said: "I've been with the club since it started 19 years ago and I can't remember seeing us involved in a better game.

"It was a credit to the Peterborough League and both these teams deserve to win promotion."

Castor & Ailsworth moved level with Sawtry after a 2-0 success at struggling Parkside, but they have played three more games than their rivals.

A far bigger threat is likely to be posed by SSPIO who are currently fourth.

WHITTLESEY returned to the head of affairs in the Premier Division thanks to the 'Jackson five'.

Ashley Jackson hit a hat-trick and namesake Garry bagged a brace in a 10-2 thrashing of Oundle. Simon Acton (2), Andy Wayte, Ricky Speechley and Rob Speechley also struck. Previous leaders Deeping Sports drew 1-1 with Pinchbeck.

To make matters worse for Oundle they plummeted back into the relegation zone after Stamford Bels' 4-2 success over Leverington.

There were notable results at either end of Combination Division Two.

Table-toppers Alconbury Reserves opened up a three-point gap thanks to a 3-2 win over third-placed Eye Sports achieved courtesy of goals from David Kilby, John Regan and Lewis Cook.

And they also received a huge favour from rock-bottom Ramsey A who put a spanner into second-placed Peterborough Rovers Reserves' promotion works by claiming a shock 3-2 success in their meeting.

James Fairhurst, Martin Fairhurst and Tom Power grabbed the goals that lifted the Rams to within a point of safety.

There was also a key success for Combination Division Three basement boys Manea A. Jamie Clifford (2), Kristoffer Judge and Steve Tarsittano struck in a 4-3 win over the Warboys second string.

Biggest victory of the weekend also came in the bottom division as Hampton Sports smashed Stilton Reserves 14-2. Dominic Goymour and Lee Deane led the goal-fest with four apiece.
